Castilla y León | Presidency Department
The President’s adviser, Luis Miguel González Gago, the Mayor of Villalar de los Comuneros, Luis Alonso, and the territorial delegate of the Junta in Valladolid, Raquel Alonso, have explored collaboration routes to ensure the celebration that will take place on April 23 in this Valladolid town and its campsite on the occasion of Castilla y León Day, as every year, as well as to ensure its security.
These discussions between the Government of Alfonso Fernández Mañueco and the Municipality of Villalar take place after the decision of the board of the Castilla y León Foundation of the Cortes not to assume the preparation of the Self-Protection Plan for this festival, nor to make the necessary facilities available.
The Junta de Castilla y León, as it has always stated, remains fully committed to the celebration of Community Day, also ensuring respect for the traditional commemoration in Villalar de los Comuneros, and promoting citizen participation on this day. Preserving and supporting this celebration is to recognize the importance of our roots and reaffirm the commitment to a vibrant, strong, and cohesive Castilla y León, advocating for inter-administrative collaboration as the best form of cooperation.
Therefore, the President’s adviser has conveyed to the Mayor of Villalar de los Comuneros the commitment of the Junta de Castilla y León to grant the municipality aid to finance the preparation of the Self-Protection Plan for the April 23 festival in this Valladolid town, as well as to implement the necessary facilities.
The Self-Protection Plan is a technical document that establishes prevention and response measures to emergencies that may occur at events with a large public attendance, such as this festival. Its purpose is to ensure the safety of all attendees.
The direct aid that the Junta de Castilla y León proposes to grant to the Municipality of Villalar for this purpose amounts to 120,000 euros, a similar amount to that allocated by the Castilla y León Foundation last year for this purpose. This aid will be transferred by the Ministry of Environment, Housing, and Territorial Planning, as the department responsible for Civil Protection of the Junta de Castilla y León.
In addition to this 120,000 euros, there is also another grant of 70,000 euros to the Municipality of Villalar for the realization of activities and concerts on April 23: an amount that was formally requested by the Mayor of the town on March 17, and which in this case will be disbursed by the Presidency Department itself. In total, 190,000 euros to contribute to ensuring that all attendees at the Campa can enjoy a day of celebration, music, and activities.
Luis Miguel González Gago highlighted the good rapport with the Mayor of Villalar de los Comuneros during the meeting, and stated, «Villalar de los Comuneros has an ally in each and every member of this regional government, which, once again, has shown unwavering support for the festival of all Castilians and Leonese, of which Villalar is an essential and very representative symbol.»
Civil Protection and Health Device
This morning, the headquarters of the Junta’s Civil Protection Agency hosted an internal coordination meeting of its own resources to plan the civil protection and health operation that will be offered to the Municipality of Villalar for the celebration. The meeting was attended by the director of the Civil Protection Agency, Irene Cortés, and the territorial delegate of the Junta in Valladolid, Raquel Alonso, accompanied by specialized technicians in civil protection and health.
During the meeting, the necessary protocols within the Junta’s competence were reviewed to ensure that the thousands of attendees expected to come to Villalar can enjoy a festive day without incidents. As in previous editions, a device is planned to be deployed that, in 2024, consisted of 127 people, including healthcare personnel, and emergency teams that, in addition to healthcare activities, will be responsible for health control, environmental health, and food hygiene, as well as the assembly of a field hospital and the emergency command post.
