The Minister of Mobility and Digital Transformation, José Luis Sanz Merino, accompanied by the Director General of Roads and Infrastructure, Jesús Puerta, visited today the works being carried out on the ZA-604 between Bóveda de Toro and Cañizal, with an intervention on 19.6 kilometers of the road and a budget exceeding 5.6 million euros. The forecast is that the modernization works on this regional road will be completed in the first quarter of 2026.
The modernization actions on the platform and surface are being carried out on a road that connects the towns of La Bóveda de Toro and Cañizal in Zamora through Fuentelapeña. «The project also includes improving the pedestrian access road to the cemetery in La Bóveda and the renovation of the Fuentelapeña crossing,» explained Sanz Merino.
The intervention, divided into several phases, widens the platform, replaces the surface with a new layer of bituminous mix with a percentage of recycled rubber, replaces accesses, horizontal and vertical signage, beaconing, and renovates the drainage system.
Since the beginning, the works have focused on the first section, between La Bóveda de Toro and Fuentelapeña, where earthworks and drainage have been carried out.
Currently, the base of the widening surface is being executed. For the completion of the works, it was necessary to close the circulation of the first section (La Bóveda de Toro-Fuentelapeña), which has been reopened to traffic today.
The Minister recalled «the commitment of the Junta de Castilla y León to the conservation of the regional road network,» the largest in Spain, with 11,500 kilometers, 1,139 of which are in the province of Zamora, betting on innovation and digitalization of the roads, with the aim that the current Strategy responds to the needs of these routes.
