The Junta de Castilla y León proposes a safe, critical, and responsible use of technologies in the classroom. To achieve this, it has initiatives such as the Digital Security and Trust Plan, implemented by the Department of Education, which seeks to modernize the educational system and reinforce digital literacy in schools. It also provides training and information to both teachers and students about the most common risks on the Internet and offers resources and recommendations to address problematic situations, such as identity theft or access to inappropriate or illegal content.

As a conclusion to all the activities, courses, and workshops carried out during the school year as part of this initiative, the Department of Education organizes the TICyL conference every year, which was inaugurated this morning by the Education Minister, Rocío Lucas.

During the meeting, attended by more than 400 people, Lucas emphasized teachers as one of the main architects of the educational success of Castilla y León. «Maintaining the balance between innovation and tradition and with that irreplaceable education of proximity, based on the relationship between teacher and student. Also, with the excellence of a teaching staff that is supported by a powerful system of continuous training, another of our strengths.» In fact, over 37% of this teacher training offer has focused on digital competence, this year with more than 41,000 places and 2,225 activities.

The Minister of Education also highlighted that Castilla y León has implemented the Digital Plan in 1,313 educational centers, that is, in 100% of them, along with the additional goal of the participation of all in the CODICETIC program, unique at the national and international levels, to obtain its digital quality seal. Likewise, regarding the accreditation of digital competence, it has exceeded the initial goal of 29,056 by more than 2,500 teachers, positioning the Community in a leadership position.

The conference featured a presentation given by the professor from the Department of Informatics, Electronics, and Communication Technologies of the University of Deusto and researcher at Deusto Learning Lab on the new uses of ICT in education, Pablo Garaizar, followed by presentations of best practices in schools, both from the ‘Digitalizing the School 4.0’ program, with the training support provided by the 76 technological mentors of Castilla y León, and from the Digital Security and Trust Plan with teachers, students, and families.

Finally, diplomas were awarded to the winning schools of the video contest held within this initiative. In the Primary Education category, the winner was the ‘Fernando II’ Infant and Primary Education School (CEIP) in Benavente (Zamora) and in the Secondary Education category, the CEIP in Toral de los Vados (León), with its 1st-year ESO students.
