It highlights that Julio Medem’s new film generates «expectations that it will meet» and is a «return to the origins»
Valladolid producer Rodrigo Espinel will present ‘8’ at the Malaga Film Festival, the new film written and directed by Julio Medem (‘Sex and Lucia’, ‘Lovers of the Arctic Circle’) and starring Javier Rey (‘Fariña’) and Ana Rujas (‘La Mesías’). A film that is generating «expectations that it will meet» and represents a «return to the origins» of the director, so he hopes that the director of the Seminci, Jose Luis Cienfuegos, will make room for it at the Valladolid International Film Week (Seminci).
In statements to Europa Press, Espinel detailed that the film will arrive on March 21 in theaters with the distributor VerCine and also features a diverse group of professionals from Castilla y León such as the art director from Valladolid, Montse Sanz, the tailor from Valladolid, Ana Maria Salvador, the post-production supervisor, also from Valladolid, Elena Alcolea, as well as the actress from Burgos, Loreto Mauleón, or the script supervisor from Salamanca, Isabel de Ocampo.
The film, which will be presented in the official section out of competition at the 28th Malaga Film Festival, taking place from March 14 to 23, has been «quite a challenge» and a project that has generated «a lot of respect» in order to «live up to it» as a producer, because Julio is one of the «most respected directors in Spain» and one of his «favorites.»
In fact, the Valladolid producer has assured that «everything has gone well» and he is looking forward to the audience now requesting it and also «falling in love with the story of Octavio and Adela.»
Produced alongside Alvaro Longoria and Medem himself, it is an «ambitious» production that portrays how, over 90 years, the lives of Octavio and Adela intertwine in the form of ‘8’, through intense encounters and disagreements. A love story told in eight sequence shots with eight decisive periods of recent Spanish history as a backdrop.
To conclude, in response to the journalist’s question, Espinel replied that «hopefully» the director of Seminci, Jose Luis Cienfuegos, could make room for the film at his festival, «although a few months will have passed since its release,» but he would love to present it in Valladolid.
