El alcalde de Valladolid, Jesús Julio Carnero, ha inaugurado la placa del 150 aniversario del nacimiento de don Narciso Alonso Cortés en el jardín romántico de la Casa de Zorrilla, junto al busto del homenajeado, en compañía de la concejala de Educación y Cultura, Irene Carvajal.
La placa muestra un fragmento del poema dedicado a don Narciso por Antonio Machado en 1914, extraído por Carlos Aganzo, poeta y co-coordinador del 150 aniversario de Narciso Alonso Cortés. Durante la inauguración, Aganzo leerá el poema completo ante los presentes.
La placa, ubicada junto al busto de don Narciso Alonso Cortés, es una obra del escultor Miguel Ángel Tapia, quien también diseñó y colocó la placa del sesquicentenario manteniendo la estética del conjunto.
Para la Casa de Zorrilla, la figura de don Narciso Alonso Cortés es fundamental, ya que facilitó la adquisición de la casa natal del poeta por parte del Ayuntamiento en 1917, durante el centenario de su nacimiento. Además, medió para que la viuda de Zorrilla donara los objetos del autor para la futura casa-museo.
En los próximos meses, se llevarán a cabo diferentes eventos mensuales en honor a don Narciso Alonso Cortés, que destacarán su legado en Valladolid y otras regiones de España. Los ciudadanos podrán conocer facetas como historiador, investigador, dramaturgo, ciclista, zorrillista, folclorista, entre otras.
El próximo evento programado será una mesa redonda en la Casa de Cervantes el 28 de abril, coordinada por Germán Vega y con la participación de destacados cervantistas.
Homenaje del Ayuntamiento a las Letras vallisoletanas
Durante el evento, el alcalde anunció que a partir del próximo año se realizará un acto institucional en la casa natal de José Zorrilla cada primavera, en conmemoración al Día del Libro y del Idioma Español.
Este homenaje busca reconocer la importancia de la cultura del libro en Valladolid y rendir tributo a los escritores locales. Cada año, se invitará a una figura destacada en el ámbito literario vallisoletano a glosar el año literario de la ciudad.

The mayor of Valladolid, Jesús Julio Carnero, inaugurated the plaque commemorating the 150th anniversary of the birth of Narciso Alonso Cortés, installed in the romantic garden of the Casa de Zorrilla, next to the bust of the honored figure. He was accompanied by the councilor of Education and Culture, Irene Carvajal.
The plaque features a fragment of the poem that Antonio Machado dedicated to Narciso in 1914, during his stay at the Venta de Cárdenas (Ciudad Real), at the gates of Despeñaperros. The poem has been excerpted by the poet and co-coordinator of the 150th anniversary of Narciso Alonso Cortés (1975-2025), Carlos Aganzo, director of Fundación Vocento, who, during the inaugural event, will recite the entire poem in front of the attendees.
The plaque installed at the base of the bust of Narciso Alonso Cortés, created in 2018 by sculptor Miguel Ángel Tapia, is also his work as he was responsible for designing and «fitting» the sesquicentennial plaque, in line with the overall aesthetic.
For the Casa de Zorrilla, Narciso Alonso Cortés is an essential figure. Through his mediation, the City Council of Valladolid (presided over by Leopoldo Stampa) acquired the poet’s birthplace in 1917, while commemorating the centenary of his birth. In addition, Narciso facilitated the donation of the author’s objects and belongings by doña Juan Pacheco, Zorrilla’s widow, to the institution to serve as the initial collection of the planned house-museum.
Following the initial plan, coordinators appointed by the Department of Education and Culture for the organization of the events program will host a «narcissistic gem» every month throughout the year, resonating the name of Master Alonso Cortés in his hometown and projecting his figure in other places in the Castilian-Leonese and Spanish geography. In the coming months, Valladolid residents will be able to learn about Narciso as a historian, researcher, playwright, cyclist, Zorrilla enthusiast, folklorist, and more.
The next event in the program will take place on Monday, April 28, at the Casa de Cervantes, at 7:30 p.m. Retired professor Germán Vega will coordinate the round table «Don Narciso, memory of Cervantism and the Casa de Cervantes,» with the participation of renowned Cervantes scholars Alfonso Martín (UVa), José Manuel Lucía Megías (UCM), and Sagrario Medrano (UVa), welcomed by Pedro González Díez, director of the Casa de Cervantes in Valladolid.

Tribute from the City Council to Valladolid Literature
During today’s event, the mayor also announced that the City Council of Valladolid will celebrate, starting next year, an institutional event at the birthplace of the illustrious and universal Valladolid poet José Zorrilla, every spring, as a tribute to Valladolid Literature. It will be held around April 23, the day when the international community celebrates World Book Day and the UN celebrates Spanish Language Day.
The City Council will pay tribute to the culture of books and their protagonists in recognition of the evident respect and great consideration that Valladolid and its citizens have for the realm of literature: narrative, poetry, theater, essay, comics, journalistic chronicles, short stories, and micro-stories.
Each year, the mayor will invite a person with influence in the world of Valladolid literature to summarize the literary year in Valladolid.
El ‘Comendador’, en honor al inolvidable personaje de Don Juan Tenorio, será responsable de pronunciar la glosa en el evento que se llevará a cabo en el jardín de la Casa de Zorrilla.
