The Castilla y León government promotes Vocational Training as a key element for the productive model of the Community. Through firm and committed policies, the Department of Education works to turn these studies into a lever for economic transformation and a driving force for the regional economy. In this sense, professional skills competitions, known as Skills, promote that citizens see Vocational Training qualifications as an attractive, relevant, and well-valued option. Thus, thanks to this public competition, students can demonstrate the level of excellence they achieve when studying these courses.
The Education counselor, Rocío Lucas, inaugurated this afternoon the CyLSkills championships that will take place from April 7 to 11 at the Valladolid Fair. For three days – from Tuesday to Thursday – 210 students, supervised and coordinated by 185 teachers, from 73 centers in the Community will compete in 35 specialties. As a novelty, two specialties in the exhibition format of Masonry and Tiling of walls and floors have been incorporated to showcase their professional value and strengthen the commitment of Vocational Training to the strategic sector of construction.
A jury composed of representatives from companies and Vocational Training teachers will decide who are the three competitors with the best scores to win the gold, silver, and bronze medals. A podium that will be announced at the event scheduled for next Friday, April 11.
The Education counselor encouraged the participants who represent «the best of the more than 47,000 people currently studying Vocational Training in our Community, of all the professionals in charge of teaching, and of the companies that collaborate with us. Each of you is the face of that great family, of that success story, which today is Vocational Training in Castilla y León.» After these words, Rocío Lucas declared the 2025 CyLSkills edition inaugurated.
These championships serve to select the representatives of the Community for the national Spainskills competition, which will take place in the spring of 2026, and constitute the preliminary phase to the international competitions Worldskills 2026, to be held in the Chinese city of Shanghai, and Euroskills 2027, held in Düsseldorf, Germany. Thus, the winners of the previous national championship will represent Spain at the next European championship in the Danish city of Herning from September 9 to 13.

Success Achieved
In the 2024 edition, Castilla y León consolidated its position as one of the autonomous communities with the best results, ranking second nationally.
This time, the regional team stepped onto the podium in eight of the 29 possible categories, winning five gold medals in Mechatronics, Mechanical Design CAD, Welding, Floristry, and Bodywork Repair; two silver medals in Landscaping Gardening and Web Development; and one bronze medal in Integrated Robotic Systems.
Parallel Activities
With the aim of bringing Vocational Training closer to young people and their families, the Department of Education has organized workshops linked to each competition modality, called ‘Try a Skill’ spaces. In these spaces, the more than 1,100 secondary education students who will come from centers throughout the Community can test their skills, manipulate tools, use applied technology, and get to know different professions in an accessible, guided, and safe environment.
Thus, these workshops seek to awaken vocations from an early age, offer more informed guidance, and break stereotypes about Vocational Training. Furthermore, it allows young people to interact with teachers, experts, and former participants in the championships, generating a motivating experience that can positively influence their future decision-making.
On the other hand, on April 8 and 9, the IV Vocational Training Forum will take place in Auditorium 1 of the Valladolid Fair, a space that will bring together educational centers, companies, social agents, and national and international experts with the aim of addressing the challenges and opportunities facing Vocational Training.
