The costume contest took place in front of the Town Hall, with the first prize going to Allúe Morer school.
The Councilor for Education and Culture, Irene Carvajal, welcomed the participating schools in the ‘Carnival of the schools’ event, which marked the beginning of the Carnival program in Valladolid, ‘CarnaVall 2025’. Over 900 students from eight schools in the city (San Fernando, Obra Social Santuario, Allúe Morer, Centro Cultural, El Corro, Rafaela María, Las Huelgas, and Ntra. Sra. Del Carmen) participated in the event, gathering in the morning at Paseo del Campo Grande to start the parade.
The students walked through the Central Promenade of Campo Grande and Santiago Street to Plaza Mayor, accompanied by the band from the Municipal School of Music and two stilt walkers who entertained the parade.
In Plaza Mayor, the school participants were greeted by the Councilor for Education and Culture, Irene Carvajal, and the manager of Vallsur Shopping Center, Carolina Castro. The costume contest then took place, with the students parading to music and dance animation while being judged by a panel.
The judges evaluated the costumes of each school and awarded prizes to the top three based on creativity and originality in design. All participating schools received a set of books.
The first prize went to Allúe Morer school, with students dressed as elements of Campo Grande; the second prize was awarded to Centro Cultural, whose students were dressed as old newspaper deliverers, and the third prize went to Obra Social Santuario, for a group costume titled ‘Painting Diversity’.
This event marked the beginning of the special programming for ‘CarnaVall 2025’ in Valladolid, which includes over 20 family-friendly activities during the weekend and until Tuesday, March 4, featuring music, parades, and shows as the main attractions.
