Castilla y León | President of the Junta of Castilla y León
The president of the Junta of Castilla y León, Alfonso Fernández Mañueco, attended today in Santander, alongside the president of Cantabria, María José Sáenz de Buruaga, the commemorative event of Europe Day, coinciding with the 75th anniversary of the Schuman Declaration.
Fernández Mañueco has defended the European project as a model of peace, freedom, stability, and shared progress. He also emphasized the decisive contribution of the European Union to the development of Castilla y León in areas such as the modernization and sustainability of agriculture through the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). In this sense, he has reiterated the call for the agricultural sector to be allowed to produce on equal terms with other countries outside the European Union. Furthermore, considering that Europe represents a significant market for the high-quality agri-food products of Castilla y León, he has urged the simplification of administrative procedures that hinder their commercialization and the reduction of excessive bureaucracy.
Finally, he highlighted that Europe has also been crucial for the progress of Castilla y León in many other areas, emphasizing its decisive contribution to the development of infrastructure, economy, and social cohesion, among other strategic areas for the future of the Community. Additionally, he defended the European Union’s project to address current and future major challenges, such as tariffs, industrial competitiveness, technological innovation, security, and cybersecurity.
