The Valladolid City Council and the state public company Mercasa are working together to expand and grow Mercaolid in order to meet the demand for space from companies and develop new business plans and future projects, promoting economic activity and employment. This partnership was evident during a visit to Mercaolid by the president of Mercasa, José Miñones, along with the president of Mercaolid and councilor of Commerce, Markets, and Consumption, Víctor Martín; the vice president and business development director of Mercasa, Silvia Llerena, and the general manager Javier Pastor Antolín.
The alignment between both partners was confirmed with the approval of an important future study at the Mercaolid Board of Directors meeting. The study will analyze the internal and external situation of Mercaolid, define the future business plan for the food unit, and explore options for expanding the facilities.
Víctor Martín, president of Mercaolid, emphasized the need for this study to consider the expanding product diversity and high demand for logistics space in the food distribution sector. He also highlighted the importance of preparing for new services like last-mile distribution and integrating complementary activities to add value to the product.
José Miñones, president of Mercasa, praised the shared vision among all Mercaolid partners, emphasizing the strategic role of Mercaolid in the food chain and the importance of sustainability, innovation, and competitiveness. Mercaolid is part of Mercasa’s Mercas Network, the largest public network of wholesale fresh produce markets in the world, supplying food to over 30 million people and playing a key role in the agri-food value chain with 24 markets across Spain.
