In order to strengthen institutional coordination for the benefit of the business sector and private gambling users in Castilla y León, the Junta called a meeting with the provincial brigades of the Judicial Police, Gaming Group, operating in the autonomous community. This meeting, promoted by the Presidency Council, was coordinated by the Director General of Institutional Relations of the Autonomous Administration, Irene Muñoz, and was attended by representatives of the National Police in the nine provinces of Castilla y León.

One of the central axes of the meeting was the presentation of the 2025 Gambling Inspection Plan, which will set the guidelines and priorities for the current year. The participants jointly analyzed the challenges faced by the brigades in their inspection tasks, aiming to provide practical solutions and unify different criteria for action.

The Presidency Councilor, Luis Miguel González Gago, stated that «institutional collaboration is essential to promote a safe gambling environment, both for users and for companies operating in this sector. It is essential that all institutions work hand in hand with the private sector to ensure compliance with the highest standards of transparency and responsibility.»

For this reason, the Junta de Castilla y León and the State Security Secretariat signed an agreement in 2023, so that the National Police Units responsible for public security protection can act, in coordination with the Autonomous Administration, in the pursuit of possible illicit behaviors that may occur in the field of gambling and betting.

These functions include monitoring compliance by gambling establishments with current regulations, through permanent inspection of premises, the preparation of reports, and the drafting of minutes for potential infractions. For this purpose, the Junta de Castilla y León provides these brigades with the necessary technological means to carry out their work correctly. These means include laptops with internet connection to draft minutes in the gambling establishments, portable printers to print these minutes on the spot, or PDAs prepared to extract data related to the activity of the gaming machines.

In this way, the Junta de Castilla y León and the National Police promote, collaboratively, greater control to ensure the correct operation of specific gambling establishments. The number of these establishments in Castilla y León is 150: 3 casinos, 14 betting houses, 17 bingo halls, and 116 gaming lounges. In addition, there are 9,834 hospitality establishments where B-type machines are currently installed.

The data from the various inspections throughout Castilla y León are reflected in the Annual Gambling and Betting Report of the Community. From the latest Report, referring to the activity of 2024, it is evident that surveillance in specific gambling establishments has increased, with 4,654 inspections carried out by the National Police under the aforementioned agreement, compared to the 4,383 inspections conducted in 2023. At the end of last year, there were 58 infringement notices at different stages of the sanctioning administrative procedure, the same number as recorded in the 2023 report.

González Gago reiterated that «the objective of this Autonomous Government is to ensure a responsible gambling environment, with effective controls that guarantee the correct operation of a sector that generates employment and contributes to the regional coffers.»
