La Junta impulsa las obras de la EDAR y el tanque de tormentas en el polígono industrial ‘Los Hitales’ en Bernuy de Porreros, Segovia, por más de 4,2 millones de euros

Today, the tender for the construction of the WWTP, with an average daily flow of 413 m³/day, and the storm tank, with a capacity of 2,280 m³, in the industrial estate of ‘Los Hitales’ is published on the State Procurement Platform.

The Castilla y León Regional Government, through Somacyl, is undertaking the construction of a new wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) to treat the wastewater generated in the Industrial Estate of ‘Los Hitales’, in the town of Bernuy de Porreros, Segovia. It also includes a storm tank to manage the rainwater collected from the new roads and the outfall tasked with carrying the water to the San Medel stream. These infrastructures will meet the requirements set by the River Basin Authority for discharges into watercourses.

As part of the regional government’s efforts to promote industrial activity in the Community and achieve territorial balance, the contract for the expansion of the industrial estate ‘Los Hitales’ in Bernuy de Porreros was awarded in July 2024 for an amount of €11,849,547. The works commenced in September 2024, with an estimated completion period of 16 months, and are currently 23% complete.

The ongoing works mainly involve earthworks, road construction, trenching, installation of pipes and collectors, construction and/or placement of wells, chambers, and manholes, as well as backfilling.

The industrial estate ‘Los Hitales’ covers a total area of 1,084,025 m², of which 767,891 m² is designated for productive use. The total current investment in the project amounts to €16,082,677 (plus VAT), allocated as follows: €11,849,547 for the estate’s urbanization, €2,829,974 for the construction of the storm tank, and €1,403,155 for the new wastewater treatment plant (WWTP).

WWTP

The new wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) will be located to the west of the industrial estate ‘Los Hitales’ and is designed to treat a daily volume of 413 m³. Its water line will include an inlet structure comprising a coarse screen with a bivalve bucket for solids collection, a manually cleaned bar screen with a 40 mm gap, and a raw water pumping station. The system also features a compact pre-treatment, flow measurement for treatment, primary treatment with an Imhoff tank, biological treatment with rotating biological contactors (RBC), secondary settling equipped with a perimetral-driven scraper bridge, and flow measurement of treated water through a Parshall flume.

Regarding the sludge line, there will be a chamber for purging secondary sludge to the digester, a gravity collection system for floatables and scum to the head of the plant, as well as a sludge thickener to enable more efficient management of the residues generated in the treatment process.

Storm Tank

The works entail a new storm tank adjacent to the new WWTP, which will collect rainwater from the estate, both existing and expanded.

The storm tank structure has outer dimensions on the ground of 30 x 20 meters. The free height of the tank is 6.25 meters before reaching the low water channel. This height gradually decreases to allow gravity drainage of the water. The maximum water level in the tank is 4 meters.

To complete the installation, a coarse screen chamber and a pumping station are planned. The latter, located at the end of the low water channel, will be equipped with two centrifugal pumps of 63.3 m3/h, which will convey the retained rainwater to the new WWTP of the Bernuy de Porreros estate, where it will be properly treated for subsequent discharge.

Outfall

To convey the rainwater from the estate’s expansion collected in the storm tank to its discharge into the San Medel stream, an outfall of 1,800 mm in diameter, made of reinforced concrete and with a length of 982 m, has been designed.

During the execution of the works, the roads of Zamarramala and Valseca will be affected, but they will be reinstated to their original state upon completion of the works.
