The Archbishop of Valladolid, Luis Argüello, has called on the faithful to «deepen the condition of the baptized and participate in the passion, death, and resurrection of Christ,» in a time of reflection that invites to «renew and deepen faith» during this Paschal Triduum.
Argüello has emphasized how, through Baptism, «christians are called to share the same journey as Christ» and live his resurrection.
The Archbishop of Valladolid, in his pastoral letter of April, has recalled that Easter not only celebrates «the victory over death,» but also «the total obedience of Christ to the Father’s plan.»
«Jesus Christ, the obedient Son who wanted to take our same flesh, step on our same land, and walk in our same history,» highlighted the Archbishop, recalling the words of Jesus in Gethsemane. «Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from me; yet not as I will, but as you will.»
THE «SUFFERING SERVANT»
In this context, Argüello has emphasized the figure of Christ as the «Suffering Servant» foretold by the prophet Isaiah, who, despite being disfigured by pain and suffering, offers himself for humanity.
«He who is the Suffering Servant rises,» the Archbishop pointed out, explaining that Jesus, by giving his life for men, transformed the cross into a «permanent source of light,» which «helps to discover the true meaning of salvation.»
The Archbishop has also highlighted how the resurrection of Christ allows Christians to give a new meaning to human suffering.
In connection with the previous context, Argüello mentioned in this message that the cross is «a symbol of surrender and brotherly love,» a reminder that «although suffering is part of our existence, it is also a means to live in obedience and service to others.»
THE INNOCENT LAMB: SHEPHERD AND GUIDE OF THE FAITHFUL
Another important point in his reflection is the figure of Christ as the «Innocent Lamb,» who, in his sacrifice, «takes away the sin of the world and frees humanity from the bondage of sin and death.»
«Raised from the dead, the Innocent Lamb is now the Good Shepherd,» affirmed the Archbishop, explaining that «Christ guides believers through life’s adversities, leading even the lost to tranquil waters.»
In his message, Argüello emphasized that «by following the Risen One, Christians find hope and strength to face life’s difficulties and enemies, such as fears, injustices, and daily sufferings.»
HOPE IN THE RESURRECTION
The Archbishop also reminded the faithful in his letter that «the resurrection of Christ opens a path to new life, a life marked by obedience, service, and love for others.»
For Argüello, to rise with Christ «is not just an act of faith, but an invitation to live a new way of life, where autonomy and freedom are found in obedience to the divine plan.»
In this sense, he emphasized that the Risen One becomes «our Simon of Cyrene,» helping to carry «our daily crosses and give them a new meaning.»
Within the framework of the Holy Year «Pilgrims of Hope,» the Archbishop has invited all Christians to live this Easter time as a period of spiritual renewal and called on the faithful to «embrace the hope that Christ offers.»
Likewise, the Archbishop stressed that this date is «an opportunity to deepen in the life of faith and experience the reconciliation, forgiveness, and mercy of God.»
